Design & Build / Commission 04

Architecture & extensions

Sometimes the honest answer is that no amount of interior design will fix the building. This commission is for those houses — extended, opened, raised or rebuilt entirely.

When the structure is the design

Malaysian terraces and older bungalows are full of trapped potential: dark middle rooms, low ceilings, air wells that collect more laundry than light. Structural intervention — a rear extension, a double-height atrium, a removed floor slab — often does more for daily life than any quantity of finishes.

We design these moves with our consulting engineers, prepare the submission drawings, and manage the approval process with the local authority. Then our own site team builds it, so the tolerance between the drawing and the concrete is measured in millimetres, not intentions.

For houses beyond saving, we take on selective knockdown-rebuild commissions — new homes designed from the boundary line up, usually as part of an Apppro Masterwork engagement.

Typical scope

  • Feasibility studies and structural assessment
  • Rear, side and upward extensions with engineering
  • Atriums, air wells and daylight interventions
  • Authority submission drawings and approvals
  • Façade redesign and building envelope upgrades
  • Knockdown-rebuild for selected commissions

Not sure if it needs an architect or a designer?

Neither are most owners at this stage — that is what the feasibility study is for. Send us photographs and the plan, and we will tell you which conversation to have first.
